Pregnancy Mindfulness & Relaxation is taught by Blossom and Berry’s Australian Trainer, Mel Craven. As an experienced Doula, and Prenatal Yoga Instructor Mel will share her wisdom and passion for holding spaces for pregnant people.

On completion of this course, you will have the confidence to lead Pregnancy Mindfulness & Relaxation classes which include simple stretches, gentle breathwork and relaxing meditations.

The mindfulness visualizations and meditations will assist each pregnant person to relax and breathe in to their heart space creating a more loving and peaceful environment for themselves and their baby.

What Will I Learn On This Course?

  • How to relieve for pain, stress, tension and discomfort in a pregnant person’s body;
  • How to provide more space for baby to move in to best position for birth
  • Opportunity for parents to meet the early developmental needs of babies through mindfulness, touch, sound and movement;
  • Opportunities to enhance the bonding process between parent and baby in womb;
  • Time for parents to be mindful of their developing baby.

By studying the course you will learn how to teach a pregnancy relaxation and mindfulness class that is safe, inclusive, nurturing and empowering.

You will gain a basic understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the pregnant body,  including how to safely and confidently adapt exercises for parents attending your classes, during different trimesters of their pregnancy journey. You will learn about  the importance of optimal fetal positioning and how to design a class which creates more space for baby to move into the right position for birth.

You will explore the history and tradition of Prenatal Yoga and learn how to teach a sequence of easy postures to pregnant people individually, and with their partners.

An important component of this course is learning the science of mindfulness and how to lead short mindfulness meditations.  By the end of this course you will be able to guide pregnant people through deeply relaxing and nourishing guided meditations that connect them both to their heart, and their baby.  Including how to breathe diaphragmatically and mindfully, using techniques like Heart Brain Coherence.

You will learn about the different effects of stress upon a pregnant person’s body and how to reduce this stress including the use of a rebozo scarf for self massage and safe essential oil aromatherapy during pregnancy.  Plus develop an awareness of the signs and symptoms of post natal depression and how to support pregnant people's perinatal mental health.

Pregnancy is a time of great change and intense emotions. The body goes through a remarkable process of change playing havoc with feelings and often creating many fears and anxieties. Add to this the decision to perhaps move homes, stop working, or any myriad of extra stressful circumstances a person may find themself in, and it is not always the glowing wonderful period of life we might imagine.

If the parent is constantly stressed and anxious, their autonomic nervous system will be in a constant state of flight or flight (sympathetic nervous system) instead of calm and connection (parasympathetic nervous system).

Stress creates a response in the body that creates a cascade of reactions – heart rate, blood pressure and respiration increases. Blood cholesterol and blood glucose also rise leading to an insulin resistance. There is a tendency towards anxiety and fear with decreased feel good  serotonin levels and an increase in stress hormones like adrenaline, epinephrine, noradrenaline and cortisol.

In a stressed pregnant person less oxygen is going to baby and there is an increase in fetal heart rate. Babies under chronic stress while in utero are more prone to crying, restlessness, colic and digestive problems.

We can assist parents to address and decrease their stress response by encouraging them to  incorporate gentle movement, relaxation and mindfulness practices in to their daily lives.

How Is The Training Delivered?

The course is available online and is self paced study in your own time. You have lifetime access to all resources. As ever with our courses you are free to express yourself authentically as you, with no need to follow a specific structure but all foundational guidance is provided for you. We are always updating the courses so new materials will be added as part of your investment. There will be monthly supervision in the form of a group mentoring call on zoom to support you and your work is marking personally by Mel.

Mel is an expert tutor and is here to answer any questions, guide you and assess your work so you can gain our certificate. You will also be fully supported in our open membership group, The Village Membership.

On completion of the Pregnancy Mindfulness and Relaxation Course you will know how to hold space for pregnant people and their partners, by delivering a 4 week program, one hour rolling class or tailor made workshop.

Mel Craven is Blossom & Berry's Middle East Baby Massage and Yoga Consultant, an Empowered Gentle Birth Doula, and a Prenatal Yoga Teacher.

As an experienced Australian Social Worker, Mel's greatest joy and passion is to empower parents to follow their dreams and create more loving relationships of connection between parents and children, families and communities. Mel co-wrote Birthing With Heart and her motto is "Love is always the answer".
