Blossom & Berry Professional 40 Days of Love Post Natal Guide

Train with us on Blossom & Berry Professional 40 Days of Love Post Natal Guide

A parent’s experience of the first forty days following the birth of their child will impact greatly upon their health and wellbeing for the next forty years. This is a crucial window of time in which a postpartum parent needs to be nurtured, nourished, supported and held in order to recover well and thrive in their new role.

Mel Craven is a Doula and Mental Health Social Worker, who has created a course for Blossom and Berry which celebrates, honors, encourages and protects this very important parent baby relationship. That acknowledges the importance of this time for slowing down, allowing space for adjusting to the new parenting role, healing, rest and rejuvenation during the first six weeks.

The importance of The First 40 Days

Once you realise just how vital and important the first forty days is to the mothers/parents immediate and long-term health on every level it becomes a matter of urgency to ensure this sacred window is honoured and protected.

Babies whose needs for closeness and comfort are responded to and lovingly met grow up to be happier and more confident adults than those whose needs were ignored.

Likewise, mothers/parents who have their needs met during the postpartum period are much more likely to be healthy and emotionally balanced later on, with less incidence of perinatal anxiety and post natal depression.

Support for the Birth Partners

As a 40 Days of Love Teacher we also encourage you to be inclusive of and to reach out to the birth partners when planning for postnatal care and support. Supporting partners, so that they can support the birthing person, can have positive effects on the family as a whole.
